\n\n'STEM is a big part of the future. Our girls will have trades and othe
r careers to choose from\, but\, increasingly\, our labor market is focusi
ng on highly technical careers. From actuaries to engineers\, programmers
to astronomers\, biochemists to cyber security analysts\, and so much more
\, our girls will need to be forming strong foundations in Science\, Techn
ology\, Engineering\, and Mathematics in order to succeed in today's rapid
ly growing world. Since Vermont and New Hampshire are\, for the most part\
, such rural areas\, our girls don't frequently have opportunities to hear
from these types of women—whose careers have expanded to a national and/o
r global focus and who are doing incredibly important work to move society
forward. \n\nOur event will feature many people from many different occup
ations\, but it is likely to have an outsized presence of STEM fields\, as
both VT and NH have higher percentages of the workforce in STEM jobs than
the nation's average (26.4% in VT and 27.8% in NH\, compared to 24% natio
nwide). We would find it incredibly beneficial to have an AstraFemina spea
ker who could provide girls with a solid overview of STEM fields (as well
as the speaker's specific field of expertise) and who could answer any que
stions girls might have about entering such fields. Frequently\, our girls
just don't know where or how to get started when it comes to entering a f
ascinating STEM field\, so being able to have these conversations with an
AstraFemina speaker would be incredibly advantageous to the girls of GSGWM
.'\n\nAstraFemina Speaker Role: 'We are highly flexible in what the speake
r could choose to engage with us on. I put 9-12:30 as the time slot\, but
that is the entire length of the event. She is welcome to stay for all or
some. We would love for her to be the opening speaker from 9-9:30. Further
more\, if she wanted to stay for the entire event\, she could serve on our
expert panel and/or run hands-on activities during our 4 rotating session
 s (9:45-12:15).'\n\n\nAF SPEAKER: CAROLINE SOECHTING
