 8 in California as a weeklong summer camp\, held on college campuses and v
 irtually. It offers girls entering eighth grade an opportunity to explore 
 the world of STEM and see a future for themselves in the field. Now a nati
 onal program offered by the American Association of University Women (AAUW
 )\, Tech Trek is sponsored by local branches. Members fund camperships at 
 low or no cost to families and coordinate with local schools to select pro
 mising students.\n \nCampers experience college life for a week\, while vi
 rtual campers participate from home. Both formats feature interactions wit
 h female role models\, hands-on workshops\, group projects\, and demonstra
 tions. Activities may include building balloon-powered race cars\, CSI-typ
 e forensics\, chemistry\, or wearable tech. The camps are staffed by femal
 e AAUW members and local volunteers. For over 25 years\, Tech Trek in Cali
 fornia has reached more than 15\,000 girls. As the founding entity\, AAUW 
 California is proud to offer this signature program.\n\nAstraFemina Speake
 r Role: The key points we try to convey at Tech Trek are that women can be
  successful in technical jobs\, that we can all help each other succeed\, 
 and that hard work will pay off in the long run. Many of our students come
  from first generation families in the US and underserved communities that
  lack strong female role models.
