This Giving Tuesday, AstraFemina is celebrating the momentum of our first-ever Giving Sparks Change campaign, which launched at the beginning of November. The campaign invites supporters across the country to help fuel opportunities that inspire girls to see themselves as future leaders and innovators in STEM. Today is more than a day of generosity. It is a chance to help light a spark that can change the entire trajectory of a girl’s life.
Girls begin forming beliefs about their abilities early, often before they reach high school. Confidence grows when they meet role models who look like them and who show them what is possible. Access to that kind of inspiration should not depend on where a girl lives, what resources her school has, or what opportunities her community can provide.
AstraFemina is working to change that. Our nonprofit is powered by accomplished women in STEM, including astronauts, engineers, scientists, and entrepreneurs who volunteer their time to meet girls at key moments in their learning. These conversations, whether in person or online, can shift uncertainty toward curiosity and help girls picture themselves as tomorrow’s innovators.
“Sometimes the difference between choosing a STEM path or stepping away is one meaningful connection,” says Sandy Magnus, President of AstraFemina and former NASA astronaut. “A single moment can spark a belief in a girl’s potential. That is the power of role models, and that is why Giving Tuesday matters.”
Through partnerships with organizations such as Girl Scouts USA, Rosie Riveters, and AAUW Tech Trek, AstraFemina has reached more than 35,000 girls across 20 states. As demand continues to grow, our goal is to expand to 250,000 girls in all 50 states. Nearly every dollar raised supports role-model engagement, ensuring that girls can connect with inspiring women in STEM at no cost to their schools or youth organizations.
