Tech Trek Camp Hopper @ Santa Clara University

In-Person
4 - 5 PM Pacific
Approximately 100 attendees

Tech Trek is a STEM enrichment program started in 1998 in California as a weeklong summer camp, held on college campuses and virtually. It offers girls entering eighth grade an opportunity to explore the world of STEM and see a future for themselves in the field. Now a national program offered by the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Tech Trek is sponsored by local branches. Members fund camperships at low or no cost to families and coordinate with local schools to select promising students.

Campers experience college life for a week, while virtual campers participate from home. Both formats feature interactions with female role models, hands-on workshops, group projects, and demonstrations. Activities may include building balloon-powered race cars, CSI-type forensics, chemistry, or wearable tech. The camps are staffed by female AAUW members and local volunteers. For over 25 years, Tech Trek in California has reached more than 15,000 girls. As the founding entity, AAUW California is proud to offer this signature program.

AstraFemina Speaker Role: Provide a motivational keynote talk about your career in STEM. Spark excitement, show that women can succeed in STEM, that hard work pays off, that it's OK to be scared sometimes. Give a glimpse of the variety of interesting experiences you had in your career.
This talk will kick off the girl's week at camp. Some will be nervous so include brief key points maybe from personal experience about how being nervous is normal, and how helpful it is to support each other.
